Chinatown, Park & Other Poems

I have never considered myself as a poet, but I do like to jot something down, especially when I have a strong feeling about certain subjects.  I went to downtown NYC with John on Sunday, July 31, 2011.  I enjoyed taking a lot of photographs, while I was sorting my photos I had strong feelings about the subjects in the photos and the poems come to me.  You can see some of them below:

Dreaming Of Homeland

Among the plants a man lies down

Dreaming of dumplings

And soy bean milk after waking time

Surrounded by live native Chinese music from the homeland

While others play a game of Mahjong

As some dance with hands and feet to Tai-Chi

A group of old women celebrate

Their motherhood well done

These are comforts for simple man

Dreaming of the homeland

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts  8.4.2011

This poem was inspired by the photographs I took in Columbus Park,Chinatown, NYC on Sunday, July 31, 2011.  Here a man slept on a large garden rock happily, while his Chinese countrymen were busy with their activities.

 Enjoy Before Your Time

Am I old?

My time shall come

But let me enjoy this minute

Before my time

Fortune Teller

Fortune Teller! Tell me! Tell me!

How my life and my fortune are going to be?

Oh yes! You are right!

I have trouble with my family!

What should I do?

Tell me! Tell me!

Oh yes! You are right!

Tell me more!

My fortune will come from the East!

How? I have to send money home every month

But I do believe you

So tell me more!

Oh! Thank you very much!

I feel good already

You solved my troubles

I will come to see you again

Here is some of my fortune

I share with you today

Hope you are right

I will give you more

Just tell me more!

Sisterhood

Come closer!

I will protect you under my shade

I will hold the umbrella for you

No matter what!

Cozy in the park

Under the cool shade of sisterhood

Tai Chi’s Movements

One leg up and one hand down

Chi is energy running through my veins

Body moves forward

Leg presses down

Back leg stretches

 Supporting body leaning,PisaTower

Left arm up to balance the motion

And slowly back again

As the movement goes around

Like the rotating world

To stop the movement is to stop the world

I can stop the movement

When I stop my beating heart

But the world still turns

And the movement lives on

Lonely

Where are you going old man?

Take me with you!

I am a lonely bird

And you are a lonely man

So many people in the world everywhere

But we are all alone

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts  Friday, 8.5.2011

Trusting and Loving

A small head situates on my shoulder

I hold you tight

While your heart beats

And my heart beats are synchronized

Your little arm pressing on mine

There is nothing more heavenly than this

When a mother holds a sleeping child

I trust and love you Mom

You can carry me anywhere

Mommy don’t leave me

Take me with you

My life depend on you

But let me sleep for a little while

I will tuck my head on your shoulder

And I will go wherever you go Mom!

Making Friends When Passing By

 Hey! How are you?

Don’t move!

No! No!

I told you so!

OK. I’ll see you tomorrow

OK?

Don’t talk to me!

Don’t look at me!

Just play your game

I see you tomorrow

OK?

Dead Pigeon

Sad! Pigeon died alone on street

Sad! Homeless man died alone in city

Sad! Rich man died alone in town

Life vanishes and goes alone in the ground

I am a Garbage collector, And Proud of It

People throw away things

I collect them

To be recycle for a better world

And it is better for me

To be independent

Take care of myself

I am a garbage collector

And proud of it

Please give me a nod

Or smile while you pass me by

Above is the 2nd edition of this poem.  When I showed John my 1st one he did not like it but I like both of them.  Below is my 1st writing:

Conservation

People throw away things

I collect them

To be recycled for a better world

And it is better for me

To be independent

Take care of myself

I am a garbage colletor

And you are a garbage maker

You are what you produce

So, you are the garbage of the world

Lovers in the Park

Touching your back

You lean on me

I am happy with you on my arm

Let me forget the other troubles

And let the world go by

I will treasure this moment

No one but you

Water Gives and Water Takes

Girl drinks water in hot sun

Watching water fountain spray mist in the sun

Cool heart

 Cool feeling

 People flock when fountain runs

Tsunami comes with flood

Water flows

Takes away life and pleasure after it’s gone

Water gives life to living things

Water takes life while survivors mourn

Family

Family walking together in a group

Mother in between as a link of chain

Father in the back cares for all

Child drinks nourishment and follows along

Marching together in one small group

Another group of families marching along

One family multiplies to more

That is the origin of families

As father, mother and children are important

For society and the world

The traditional family consists of a father, mother and children.  But when the father or mother dies then the meaning of family is changed.  Some traditional laws need to be adapted and changed as the society becomes more civilized, free and fair for all citizens.

Civilize

What is civilized?

When we walk upright

Trying ones best to survive

With integrity and concern for others

Let us practice this together

It may make us become civilized

Innocent Little Girl

Little Girl, Little Girl

Lovely and innocent

Hugging her friend

With love and gentleness

Happiness with little things

But full of love and kindness

And bright as the morning sun

Gentle enough

Not too hot as an afternoon

Blazing sun

Little girl, little girl

Once I feel but it passed me by

Look back with smile

To see happy little girl

As I was young once

 Respect!

See! We are different! Yet we are the same!

Young girls in short, short tight pants with low cut blouses

Showing their boobs to tease the boys

Their hormones charging

 As the young men’s do

On the other hand

A woman dresses in a light blue cover over all

Only her face appears talking to the friends

They seem not to care what she or others wear

Clothes are cover up to express oneself

But what information in people’s brains is undefined

We cannot build Rome in one day

We have to respect and talk of reasons

As I told my Muslim customer who dress in black over all

I respect you if that make you happy

The exception is that without hurting yourselves and others

Basically, we are the same

As all humans and creatures do

We eat, we shit, we sleep and we all die

So do not kill each other before it time

Respect! Respect! Respect!

For the Peace will come to mankind.

Peace Comes To My Baby

 Oh! Peace! Oh!  Peace comes!

I will rock my baby to sleep

With my soft voice singing a lullaby

Rock-a-bye, baby

In the tree top

When the wind blows

The cradle will rock

When the bough breaks

The cradle will fall

And down will come baby

Cradle and all

Hum, hum, hum, hum, hum, hum, hum————–

Oh! My baby I will not let you fall

I will hold you gently

Rock you in my arms

Oh! Peace comes to my baby!

I will kiss you on your closing eyes

Don’t worry baby we are one

Sleep, sleep peacefully

You will not die at nineteen in the war

Mommy will hold you gently

Oh! Peace comes to my baby!

Hum, hum, hum, hum, hum, hum, hum————–

Hey! Mr. President, What Is It Going To Be?

A woman looks at the Peace symbol and wonders

When will Peace come to me and my child?

I wonder if my son is going to war when he is nineteen?

I watch public TV showing pictures of soldiers who die so young

Some only nineteen and most in their early twenties

Hey! Mr. President

What is it going to be?

If my child dies in war I die too

My life will be meaningless

Hey! Mr. President

What is it going to be?

Presidents come and Presidents go

The forty third President

 Mr. George Bush, Jr.

Who started the war

Is sitting having coffee or tea

In his large ranch inTexas

But the wars still go on

And kids still die in wars

Hey! Mr. President

What is it going to be?

With the stroke of a pen, the order trickles down

Poor kids, poor soldiers

Never come back home again

Hey! Mr. President

What is it going to be?

May peace be with you and your family sir!

And hope that Peace will be with me

And my baby too!

 Mr. Hat Man

Let me try on your hat

The red one better for me?

No! Let me see the white one

Hum! Too tight

How about the black?

I like this one

How much?

Too much!

I’ll be back

When I have more time

Now I know what you have

Yes lady!

Don’t come again

This poem comes from my experience taking care of some of my customers.  Some customers want to see everything and love to try on things, which consumes a lot of my time.  At the end they sometimes say, “I will be back when I have more time now I know what you have.”  I smile to the customer and think to myself, “Please don’t come again.”

Asians, Blacks, Whites, in the City Park

Black Americans or Africans

Chinese American and Indian Americans or Asians

White Americans or Europeans

And other mixtures in the city

Best time in the park

To see a mixture of people

Come out to have fun

The Wall between the Living and Dead

The wall between the living and dead

Is so thin

Yes! You are here today

Then you are gone

Life is fragile

Life is precious

As you value life

You value yourself

And you value all living things

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts, Saturday, 8.20.2011, 4:17 PM

Kissing the Gravestone

A branch leans down

Casting the shadow of leaves

Kissing the gravestone

It is a beautiful sight

As the memory lives on

Whoever you are

May peace be with you always

The kissing leaves upon your grave

Will be there every day

When the sun shine on

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts, Saturday, 8.20.2011, 10:43 PM

Building to Building to Building

Building to Building to Building

All around

Some tall, some short

Square boxes stack up high

Who’s there?  Who’s there?  Who’s there?

I am here!

People in tall buildings on top of each other

Do you know me neighbor?

Strangers in tall buildings here and there!

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts, 8.21.2011, 4:05 AM

Hey! Mr. Homeless Man!

Hey! Mr. Homeless man!

Sleep peacefully in the park

Summer time it is the best place to be

You own the park with the beauty of trees

You are free to roam from park to park

Just watch for Mr. Policeman coming to chase you away

But meanwhile have a good time with the trees

I wonder if your stomach is free!

What Is Art?

Art on the wall

Or art in the garden

With people and trees

Or just a reflection of a garden

Overlay of artwork on the wall

Art is life or life is art

Or both!

Is art everything?

It depends on how you look at it

It depends on how you compose your life

It can become the finest art in the world

If you only try your best

Alone

We come alone

And we go alone

It such a lonely thought

But it is the nature of life

Time to time we give in

With love, company and friendship

But when the bond is broken

It hurts so much

We better go back

To be alone again

Hi Darrel,

I just open my emails today. To my surprise I received your 3 emails. Thank you so much for your comments. I am always grateful and appreciate receiving comments, both positive, and negative. Kind words and smiles always make the world brighter. The comments make me learn more and encourage me to achieve better things in life.

Please remember that life is what we make it. Everything comes and goes; we have to find peace and happiness in ourselves. If we are looking for somebody else to give us happiness it might never come or we might never be satisfied. But if we are not seeking happiness from others then when someone gives us a smile or kind manner then we will be happier and appreciate what we receive.

I hope you do not mind my philosophical attitude. From your comments “peace to me also mean freedom, but freedom of thoughts as well.” Freedom is an essential component of life because you are conscious of it that makes you better able to cope with life in a positive direction.

Sincerely yours,

Ing
