Cherry Blossom at Branch Brook Park on Sunday, March 18, 2012

I opened the Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ website for this year show as the following:

“The 36th Annual Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival will be held                    on April 7-22, 2012

The Annual Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival will be held in April for the year 2012. According to the Essex Arts Newsletter, winter 2011, the 36th Annual Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on April 7-22, 2012. Located in Essex County’s Branch Brook Park (Newark, NJ), the festival features a bike race, a children’s fun run, a race for the disabled, the 10k cherry blossom run, a photography workshop, a free lecture series and the daylong Bloomfest celebration. More information can be found at the BranchBrookPark.org website.”

This year the weather is very warm.  In mid March the weather rose to 60 degree Fahrenheit and even higher.  I saw one of the pictures on a website of cherry blossoms on March 14, 2012, showing the beautiful blossoms in full bloom.  I was kind of disappointed that the cherry blossoms came out too early.  We intended to have a picnic with family and our friends, especially John’s actor friends from New York joining us at the Cherry Blossom Festival in mid April, which is the normal time of cherry blossoms in full bloom all over Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ.

John and I headed to Branch Brook Park on Sunday, March 18, yesterday about 5 PM to observe our prize procession that we are so proud to tell everyone to come see something beautiful in Newark, NJ.

As we entered the Branch Brook Park next to Sacred Heart Cathedral we saw beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom from the young cherry trees along the way.  John drove to the end of the park near the incineration building.  This destination is where we usually have our picnic with friends and family.  I always remember taking pictures with Mali, our daughter thirty three years ago when Mali only one year old.  Below are the pictures that I took yesterday:

The young cherry trees are in full bloom but the older and larger ones are still in the bud form.

I got close to the young cherry trees and captured these beautiful blossoms.

The little buds from the larger mature tree peeks out against the full bloom pink blossoms of the younger ones.

This large healthy cherry tree will produce beautiful blossoms soon, hopefully by early April.

I think we still have hope for beautiful cherry blossoms greeting us and a lot more people who come to visit the beauty of nature in April.  But I estimate the cherry blossoms will arrive sooner than the years before.  John and I will come to Branch Brook Park again next Sunday or sooner to observe the growth of cheery blossoms.  Then we can have a clearer date for our gathering to celebrate the arrival of the cherry blossoms this year.
