FBI Arrests Militia Members for Conspiring to Kidnap Michigan Governor Whitmer, Seeking Civil War

Oct 8, 2020  Glenn Kirschner

In April 2020, Trump tweeted, “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” Days later, heavily armed protestors packed the Michigan state house, seemingly acting on Trump’s tweeted command. We have now learned that at about the same time, a violent, right-wing, extremest militia group calling itself the Wolverine Watchmen was plotting to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Fortunately, the FBI and the Michigan State Police infiltrated the conspiracy and took it down before it could carry out its criminal plans. Whether it’s telling the Proud Boys to “stand by”, or signaling to militia groups that they should “Liberate Michigan!”, it is beyond dispute that the president of the United States is inspiring, motivating and encouraging this kind of violent extremism. Thank goodness the FBI is protecting the American people 24/7/365 against the violence Donald Trump continually inspires. Trump to Woodward: Nothing more could have been done to fight Covid-19

Sep 14, 2020  CNN

On August 14, the coronavirus pandemic was on fire in the US. More than 168,000 Americans had died, with more than 1,300 deaths that day alone. But when President Donald Trump called legendary journalist Bob Woodward, it was to find out one thing: He had recently learned that Woodward’s new book “Rage” was done and would be coming out in September, and Trump wanted to find out how he’d be portrayed. It was their 19th conversation, following 18 interviews that formed a key component of Woodward’s book. Trump had privately told Woodward in February he knew critical details about how deadly the virus was, and in March admitted he was playing it down. On August 14, Trump peppered the veteran two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist with questions about the book and what exactly was in it. CNN has obtained excerpts of the 10-minute conversation, which show Trump was more focused on the economy than the public health crisis. As the two debated Trump’s response to the pandemic, Trump finally asked: “So you think the virus totally supersedes the economy?” “Oh sure. But they’re related, as you know,” Woodward responded. “A little bit, yeah,” Trump replied. “Oh, a little bit?” Woodward asked. “I mean, more than a little bit. But the economy is doing — look, we’re close to a new stock market record,” Trump said. #Woodward #Trump #CNN

LPTV: The Breakdown — September 14, 2020

Streamed live 6 hours ago  The Lincoln Project

#LPTV The Breakdown is live with former White House Counsel John Dean. We’ll be discussing The Trump tapes and more.

“Lies are more engaging online than truth,” says former CIA analyst, diplomat and Facebook employee Yaël Eisenstat. “As long as [social media] algorithms’ goals are to keep us engaged, they will feed us the poison that plays to our worst instincts and human weaknesses.” In this bold talk, Eisenstat explores how social media companies like Facebook incentivize inflammatory content, contributing to a culture of political polarization and mistrust — and calls on governments to hold these platforms accountable in order to protect civil discourse and democracy.

This talk was presented at an official TED conference, and was featured by our editors on the home page.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Yaël Eisenstat · Democracy activist

After years spent as a CIA analyst, diplomat and national security advisor at the White House, Yaël Eisenstat began to view the breakdown of civil discourse as the biggest threat to US democracy.

In an unmissable talk, journalist Carole Cadwalladr digs into one of the most perplexing events in recent times: the UK’s super-close 2016 vote to leave the European Union. Tracking the result to a barrage of misleading Facebook ads targeted at vulnerable Brexit swing voters — and linking the same players and tactics to the 2016 US presidential election — Cadwalladr calls out the “gods of Silicon Valley” for being on the wrong side of history and asks: Are free and fair elections a thing of the past?

Remembering 9/11

By Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts

John Watts, my husband enjoyed being on the plane, sipping a drink after a nice Indian curry meal on the flight.  John was watching a movie while I tried to find the best position to sleep in until we landed at Heathrow Airport, UK. It took about six hours from Newark Airport, USA to Heathrow Airport, UK.  From Heathrow Airport we took the bus to Swansea where we had to sit for five hours.  At about 3:00 PM we reached the bus stop in Swansea. A Taxi man drove us to Phyllis’ house, John’s sister for duration of about fifteen minutes.

“Do you know the World Trade Center collapsed?”

The taxi man asked us while he took our luggage out from the trunk.

“No!  It is impossible.  We just came from World Trade Center.”

We responded.

“Two planes hit the twin towers.”

The taxi man gave us more information.

After greeting Phyllis, we ran in the living room and turned on the TV and found out that there were no Twin Towers any more.  We learned that the terrorists hijacked the airplanes and used planes as weapons to destroy the buildings and people on the plane and thousand more in the World Trade Center Towers.  We also learned about the disasters in Washington DC and Pennsylvania.

We spent most of our trip, almost a month, watching the TV to find out about the news of WTC disaster.  We were gathering newspapers for more information also.  We made a lot of phone calls to our daughter who was home in Newark, NJ, USA.  ———

I began doing the artwork relating to WTC, a few ceramic sculptures as a Memorial for the Twin Towers.  I kept my artwork to myself.  I showed them to only few people who were close to me.  I did not want to provoke negative feelings or bad memories in others.  I felt such sadness about this horrible event.  It is the same sadness for any horrible event such as Holocausts, the nuclear bombs in Japan, the killing field in Cambodia, in Rwanda and other places in the world.  We humans never learn to be civilized.  We seem so quickly to forget the horrible events that took place and then bad things happen again.  We kill each other directly and indirectly.  The indirect actions of corruption, greed and power hunger cause direct action to surface.  Innocent people will always end up suffering the effects.  Hopefully we will be wiser and able to learn from past events and improve our human race to be able to live with each other in peaceful coexistence.

The followings are the pictures of my sculptures I produced on March 16, 2002 I made especially as a memorial to the Twin Towers and the people who lost in these events.  I also produced artwork that related to the event of World Trade Center disaster.

The description of WTC memorial:

Two towers stand erect, supported by two long panels.  Outside of two panels are animal designs in one side and the garden and plants on the other side.  The long path between the two towers inside panels is blank spaces which can be the area that the loved ones or any ones express their thought in writing.  And the corridor between two panels can be the place for children to play hide and seek.

I made this small-scale Twin Towers sculpture as a replica for loved ones or any ones who comes to mourn, let go of sadness and to remember the loss.  I hope we can realize that we should enjoy and appreciate one and other while we are still alive.

Memorial to World Trade Center

Time to mourn

Time to cry

Wipe the sadness away

Time to remember

Time to live

Get up and go

Work awaits

I will go on

Remembering the past

With heavy heart

When you are apart

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts, Sunday, September 11, 2011, 5:57 AM

Lost Hope

Little girl feels

Little girl hurts

To feel the pain so young

Her innocent lost

Even though it hasn’t begun

We all lost our innocent and freedom

Innocent of hoping working hard

We will be better some day

But freedom lost

Sudden someone comes

And take the hope away

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts, Sunday, September 4, 2011, 9:45 PM

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 a total of 343 firefighters died with thousands of innocent civilians in the World Trade Center and other locations. Their lives were taken away by fanatic, brainwashed believers of a distorted version of their own religion.  If the hijackers believe in humankind and nature, they would not kill themselves and others.  So, one should always learn to questions what one is told to believe.

I salute all the brave firefighters and others who risk their lives saving others.  May peace be with the brave firefighters, all their families and the others.

Respectfully yours,

Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts, Friday, August 8, 2003

Flowers from my little garden

Floating in the air

Let each beautiful one

Touching each soul

Seeing beautiful things

Rising to the sky

Just wait for a little while

I will be with you all

Remembering 9/11

As we mourn the World Trade Center disaster – 9/11 this year, we are also mourning for more than 190,000 people so far, who passed away from COVID – 19.  We could not prevent the World Trade Center disaster – 9/11 because it came with a surprise attack from the terrorists within a short period of time.  But COVID – 19 started at the end of last year (2019).  Mr. Trump had knowledge about the deadly virus and knew that it was an air born disease and that it was not only dangerous to older people, but also to younger people.  Mr. Trump keeps lying to American citizens that everything is going to be O.K.   He never organizes or tries to warn or help people prepare, protecting them from getting the deadly virus.  Instead he tells people to go to work and pushes children to go to schools that do not have the time or finances to prepare for the safety of the children.  Mr. Bob Woodward’s Book, called, “RAGE”, and his tape recordings of Mr. Trump’s voice prove to everyone that he had knowledge about the deadly virus- COVID – 19 since the beginning of this year (2020).   He keeps on lying every time he talks to the press or goes to his rallies.  He never puts a mask on and tells his followers that it is OK not to wear masks or to social distance.

The following are news reports from different media talking about Mr. Bob Woodward’s book, RAGE and tape recordings of Mr. Trump’s voice.

The New York Times: 5 Takeaways From ‘Rage,’ Bob Woodward’s New Book About Trump

Mr. Woodward reveals that President Trump sought to play down the severity of the coronavirus and repeatedly denigrated the U.S. military.

President Trump described his chemistry with the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, to the journalist Bob Woodward, saying: “You meet a woman. In one second, you know whether or not it’s going to happen.” Credit…Erin Schaff/The New York Times

By Aishvarya Kavi  Sept. 9, 2020

“This is deadly stuff,” President Trump said of the coronavirus in a Feb. 7 interview with the journalist Bob Woodward for his upcoming book, “Rage.” But it was a vastly different story than he was telling the public at the time. Mr. Trump would later admit to Mr. Woodward that publicly, he “wanted to always” play down the severity of the virus.

Mr. Woodward conducted 18 interviews with the president for the book, which goes on sale next week. Mr. Trump also granted Mr. Woodward access to top officials inside the White House, revealing the inner workings of the president and his administration.

Here are five takeaways.

Mr. Trump minimized the risks of the coronavirus to the American public early in the year.

Despite knowing that the virus was “deadly” and highly contagious, he often publicly said the opposite, insisting that the virus would go away quickly.

“I wanted to always play it down,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Woodward on March 19. “I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”

And while he was saying publicly that children were “almost immune” to the virus, he told Mr. Woodward in March: “Just today and yesterday, some startling facts came out. It’s not just old, older. Young people too — plenty of young people.”

Latest Updates: The Coronavirus Outbreak

More live coverage: Markets

In April, as he began to urge the country to reopen, Mr. Trump told Mr. Woodward of the virus, “It’s so easily transmissible, you wouldn’t even believe it.”

Two of the president’s top officials thought he was “dangerous” and considered speaking out publicly.

Gen. Jim Mattis, Mr. Trump’s former defense secretary, is quoted describing Mr. Trump as “dangerous” and “unfit” for the presidency in a conversation with Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence at the time. Mr. Coats himself was haunted by the president’s Twitter feed and believed that Mr. Trump’s gentle approach to Russia reflected something more sinister, perhaps that Moscow had “something” on the president.

“Maybe at some point we’re going to have to stand up and speak out,” Mr. Mattis told Mr. Coats in May 2019, according to the book. “There may be a time when we have to take collective action.”

Ultimately neither official spoke out.

Mr. Trump repeatedly denigrated the U.S. military and his top generals.

Mr. Woodward quoted Mr. Trump denigrating senior American military officials to his trade adviser, Peter Navarro, during a 2017 meeting.

“They care more about their alliances than they do about trade deals,” the president said.

And in a discussion with Mr. Woodward, Mr. Trump called the U.S. military “suckers” for paying extensive costs to protect South Korea. Mr. Woodward wrote that he was stunned when the president said of South Korea, “We’re defending you, we’re allowing you to exist.”

Mr. Woodward also reports that Mr. Trump chewed out Mr. Coats after a briefing with reporters about the threat that Russia presented to the nation’s elections systems. Mr. Coats had gone further than he and the president had discussed beforehand.

When asked about the pain “Black people feel in this country,” Mr. Trump was unable to express empathy.

Mr. Woodward pointed out that both he and Mr. Trump were “white, privileged” and asked if Mr. Trump was working to “understand the anger and the pain, particularly, Black people feel in this country.”

Mr. Trump replied, “No,” and added: “You really drank the Kool-Aid, didn’t you? Just listen to you. Wow. No, I don’t feel that at all.”

Mr. Woodward writes that he tried to coax the president into speaking about his understanding of race. But Mr. Trump would only say over and over that the economy had been positive for Black people before the coronavirus led to an economic crisis.

Mr. Woodward gained insight into Mr. Trump’s relationships with the leaders of North Korea and Russia.

Mr. Trump provided Mr. Woodward with the details of letters between himself and the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, in which the two men fawn over each other. Mr. Kim wrote in one letter that their relationship was like a “fantasy film.”

In describing his chemistry with Mr. Kim, Mr. Trump said: “You meet a woman. In one second, you know whether or not it’s going to happen.”

Mr. Trump also complained about the various investigations into ties between his campaign and Russia, saying that they were affecting his abilities as president and his relationship with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.

“Putin said to me in a meeting, he said, it’s a shame, because I know it’s very hard for you to make a deal with us. I said, you’re right,” Mr. Trump said.

Trump Tapes Reveal He Lied About Coronavirus Pandemic | Pod Save America

Sep 10, 2020   Crooked Media

A series of taped conversations between Donald Trump and Bob Woodward reveal that Trump knew about the severity of the coronavirus pandemic in early February and continued to downplay the threat it posed publicly. The tapes also contained a number of other revelations including racist views about Barack Obama, the leaking of top secret weapons systems, calling his generals “fucking pussies”, and his “fantasy”-like relationship with Kim Jong-Un. Then – oh my god, there’s more? – Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer discuss the fires in the western United States and how the media discusses the climate crisis. About this data

Description

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus.

The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell.

HOW IT SPREADS

Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

The New York Times                The Morning            August 28, 2020
By David Leonhardt

Good morning. Japan’s leader is resigning. The N.B.A. will resume. And Trump makes his case for re-election.

What is Trump’s strategy?

President Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, arrived for his acceptance speech on the South Lawn of the White House.Doug Mills/The New York Times The goal of this week’s Republican convention wasn’t always clear. At times, it presented President Trump — as a champion of immigrants, a promoter of racial justice and a defender of women — in ways that obviously conflicted with his entire time as a public figure.
Trump’s campaign doesn’t really think it can reinvent him in the minds of most voters at this stage, does it? No, it doesn’t. But it doesn’t have to, either. And there was indeed a method to the through-the-looking-glass messages that the convention was offering this week.
Trump’s record on diversity and national unity — on race, immigration and gender — is a problem for him. It makes him anathema to many progressives, who would never vote for him, of course. But it also weighs on some swing voters and disaffected Republicans who haven’t yet made up their minds, polls suggest.
This group includes people who voted for Trump in 2016 and flipped to the Democrats in the 2018 midterms. It includes people who didn’t used to express concern about racism but have begun doing so in recent months. It includes whites and a significant number of Latinos, among others.

To these voters, the question of Trump’s racism or sexism isn’t binary. They know he can be ugly — or “unfiltered,” as his daughter Ivanka Trump put it last night. But these swing voters have their limits. To vote for Trump in 2020, they want to believe that he is different from the worst version of himself.

One of the Republican Party’s main goals of the past four nights was giving these voters permission to believe that.
That’s why the convention included testimonials to his personal character — as well as a parade of female, Black and Latino speakers (unlike many recent White House meetings). “I can tell you, he really cares,” Ja’Ron Smith, the highest-ranking Black official in Trump’s White House, said from the stage last night. For the same reason, the Trump campaign has already been aggressive in spending money on Spanish-language ads, especially in Arizona, Florida and North Carolina.
“What the Republicans know is they don’t need to win a majority of our vote,” Chuck Rocha, a Latino strategist and the author of “Tío Bernie,” about Bernie Sanders’s outreach efforts, told my colleague Ian Prasad Philbrick. Trump won about 30 percent of the Latino vote in 2016 and is trying to do slightly better this year. The main target, Rocha added, is “Latino men who care a lot about law and order and keeping their families safe.”

Trump’s overall campaign strategy came into focus this week. It looks like this:

Sand off the worst parts of his image with voters who haven’t yet made up their minds. Offer a misleading defense of his records on the coronavirus. Remind people of the growing pre-virus economy. And define Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as politically correct establishment figures who will refuse to stand up to rioters or socialists.
“Your vote,” Trump said in his speech closing the convention last night, “will decide whether we protect law-abiding Americans, or whether we give free rein to violent anarchists, agitators and criminals who threaten our citizens.”
This week, Republicans had the nation’s political stage to make their case, just as Democrats had it the previous week to make theirs: against Trump as a lying, racist, corrupt, would-be authoritarian. The terms of the debate are set. The campaign has less than 10 weeks remaining.

Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, announced today that he would resign because of illness, just days after becoming the country’s longest-serving leader. He said he had suffered a relapse of a bowel disease.
Abe, the leader of the conservative Liberal Democratic Party, has lost popularity recently as the economy has weakened.
2.     Aftermath of the Kenosha shooting

Jacob Blake, the Wisconsin man shot by the police, is handcuffed to his hospital bed despite being partially paralyzed, his father said. “He can’t go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed to the bed?” Blake’s father told The Chicago Sun-Times, adding that he did not know why his son had been arrested.

Political reaction: Trump made only a glancing reference to Kenosha last night. Joe Biden condemned acts of vandalism and violence, affirmed protesters’ right to demonstrate peacefully and accused Trump of “pouring gasoline on the fire.”
And in sports: N.B.A. players have decided to resume the playoffs, after boycotting games as a protest against police violence.
3.     Hurricane Laura thrashes Louisiana

Hurricane Laura plowed through Louisiana on Thursday, killing at least six people, ripping apart buildings and causing a fire at a chemical plant. This drone footage shows the scale of devastation.
Still, the destruction and storm surge were less severe than many had feared.
Here’s what else is happening
IDEA OF THE DAY: THE HATCH ACT
This week’s Republican convention appeared to violate the Hatch Act, the law barring federal employees from engaging in political activities while on the job. The convention included live White House events as well as a speech from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during a diplomatic trip.
No previous convention, by either party, has so flagrantly flouted the act, as Peter Baker — who has covered every president since Bill Clinton — explained in this story.
The apparent violations have sparked a debate among legal experts, writers and others: Are these violations truly alarming (as experts largely agree that Trump’s use of the government to profit himself and his family have been)? Or are they instead a less subtle version of what every president has done?
The case for outrage: The Hatch Act is meant to give Americans confidence that officials won’t treat them differently based on politics — and the government is not a personal extension of the president. Brazenly flouting the law is a declaration that having a fair, trustworthy government doesn’t matter, Susan Hennessey and Scott Anderson write in The Washington Post.
Keeping government and politics separate is one of those traditions — like past presidents generally avoiding outright lies — that democracy depends on, Trump’s critics say. Trump’s approach is “an abuse of the office,” Tom Ridge, a Republican former Cabinet member, said.
The case against: Some experts argue that Republicans were careful to find loopholes in the Hatch Act and avoided violating it. Pompeo, for instance, said he did not use State Department resources to record his speech. And past presidents have used government resources to help their campaigns, organizing trips and policy announcements around visits to swing states.
National Review’s Dan McLaughlin argued that the Hatch Act should apply fairly strictly to “civil servants who are not political appointees.” But doing so “makes a lot less sense when dealing with people everybody knows to be political actors,” he added.

Bored Panda: At 17, This Man Adopted A Prostitute’s Kids And Today He Has Rescued Nearly 2,500 From Sex Traffickers

The world is plagued by many problems. Issues like climate change and the coronavirus pandemic are just the tip of the iceberg as there are also many other social, economic, peace and security, human rights, as well as many other types of problems still waiting to be resolved.

But where there’s a problem, there’s a solution.

Meet Ajeet Singh, the founder of Guria, India’s NGO against human trafficking and forced prostitution, who comes with his own inspiring story that has led him and his organization to save thousands from captivity.

When Ajeet was 17, he met a young nautch dancer at a party who turned out to be a prostitute

When Ajeet was 17 years old and still in college, he was attending a cousin’s party that had a dancer, a “nautch girl”, performing for the guests. Historically, nautch was a popular court dance performed by girls in India that symbolized grace and elegance. Before that, it was a devotional dance performed in temples for spiritual reasons only.

“I felt really bad about the way people were behaving towards her,” Ajeet said at the Thomson Reuters Foundation Trust Conference on modern slavery. “I waited for the whole night until I could talk to her.”

However, nautch girls nowadays are shunned as prostitutes. And guests were treating this dancer as one. Ajeet felt bad about the way they were behaving towards her, so he waited the entire night to talk to her in hopes of helping her get out of such a life. He eventually found out that she was a mother of three, making Ajeet want to help them even more.

He also learned that she had 3 kids and wanting to help, he decided to adopt and raise them

“I thought, what if I adopted her children,” Ajeet said. “And that was the beginning.” He began teaching them in his spare time away from college, thus providing them with the opportunity to study, to gain knowledge, and to break free from the vicious cycle, as is often the case given the context, in hopes of creating a new life for them.

Some years later, Ajeet took the next logical step and founded an organization called Guria with the aim of fighting sexual exploitation of women and children. Specifically, it aims to prevent human trafficking and unsafe migration, to end child prostitution, and to prevent second generation prostitution.

Guria aims to achieve this by ending victimized women’s and children’s dependency on criminal organizations involved in drugs and sexual exploitation, providing them with opportunities to better their lives through education, health, emotional support, vocational training throughout their new lives.

Since Ajeet founded Guria, the organization has managed to save over 2470 persons from slavery, including commercial sexual exploitation and bonded labor and over 150 children have adopted alternative sources of livelihood outside the red-light area, all thanks to Ajeet’s initiative.

Soon, he established an NGO that aims to fight sexual exploitation of women and children

According to Guria’s website, it is currently supporting the education and vocational training of over 5400 children, of which 460 have been admitted to formal schools. The total children supported now is over 6800.

This is besides all of the committees, campaigns, events, and organizations against human trafficking and sexual exploitation that it has established since the founding of the organization in 1993.

Since establishment in 1993, Ajeet and his organization saved nearly 2,500 people from sex trafficking

The UN estimates that there are over 660,000 prostitutes in India—second only to Congo, which is estimated to have over 2.9 million. Further estimates reveal that there might be at least around 8 million people living in modern slavery in India. It doesn’t help that India is infamous for its culture of violence and abuse against women.

According to Ajeet himself, there are 3 million women within the sex industry in India, of which around 40% are children. Around 75% of these minors enter the sex trade through traficking.

His organization provided over 5,400 kids with an education and the total children count supported by the organization now is over 6,800

Unfortunately, it’s not just India that has a problem with this but the whole world. Bored Panda has covered a story of a group of retired navy seals who now spend their days preventing child trafficking in the United States. They have saved 238 children from being trafficked so far.

Along with his wife Santwana Manju, Ajeet continues to run the 36-member organization, fighting off human trafficking by raiding brothels to rescue children trapped inside and confronting human traffickers and pursuing legal cases on behalf of the victims. Needless to say, confronting criminals on the front line ain’t easy, so consider donating to help the cause. Guria staff have been physically and verbally abused and both Ajeet and his wife have received death threats. But, they march on because the mission is more important.

“We strongly believe that it is not charity that is wanting in the world – it is justice to make a humane world where all beings co-exist in harmony,” notes Guria’s website.

He now runs the NGO together with his wife Santwana Manju
